We are looking for a Head of Engineering to lead CulturePulse’s engineering organisation across multiple products and high-trust, mission-critical platforms operating in regulated and security-sensitive environments.

This role is responsible for technical leadership, delivery execution, platform reliability, and people management across frontend, backend, data, ML/LLM systems, and cloud infrastructure. The Head of Engineering owns the engineering system as a whole - ensuring that teams are aligned, delivery is predictable, platforms are reliable, and technical decisions support long-term business and mission goals.

This is a senior leadership role working closely with the VP, CEO, Product, Sales, Data Science, and external stakeholders (including public-sector and international partners). While technical credibility is essential, the role is not about being the primary implementer, but about enabling teams to deliver high-quality systems with confidence, clarity, and accountability.

Job description

Provide strategic technical leadership

  • Define and own the technical direction and architecture across CulturePulse platforms.
  • Ensure engineering strategy aligns with company priorities, including B2G and B2B products.
  • Make high-impact technical decisions around architecture, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Evaluate trade-offs, risks, and long-term implications of technical choices.
  • Guide build vs buy vs partner decisions across infrastructure, AI tooling, and platforms.

Own platform reliability, operations, and risk

  • Be accountable for system reliability, availability, and operational resilience.
  • Ensure monitoring, alerting, incident response, and post-incident learning are in place and effective.
  • Oversee maintenance cycles, technical debt management, and system upgrades.
  • Ensure platforms meet expectations for stability and predictability in real-world operational use.
  • Proactively identify technical and operational risks and ensure mitigation plans exist.

Security, privacy, and compliance leadership

  • Own engineering-level security practices across systems and teams.
  • Ensure platforms meet security, privacy, and compliance expectations for regulated and high-trust environments.
  • Oversee secure architecture, access control, and data-sensitivity considerations.
  • Partner with leadership on audits, governance, and client-facing security or compliance requirements.
  • Ensure engineering teams understand and apply security and privacy principles in day-to-day work.

Delivery, prioritisation, and execution

  • Own engineering delivery planning, prioritisation, and execution across teams.
  • Balance feature development, platform maintenance, innovation, and operational work.
  • Establish predictable delivery cycles and realistic commitments.
  • Surface delivery risks early and communicate clearly with stakeholders.
  • Ensure engineering work is transparent, trackable, and aligned with product and business goals.

Lead and grow the engineering organisation

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team (frontend, backend, data, ML/AI, infrastructure).
  • Own hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and performance development.
  • Establish and uphold engineering standards, best practices, and healthy team processes.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure knowledge sharing, documentation, and continuity across the organisation.

Collaborate with product, data, and leadership

  • Work closely with Product leadership to translate goals into executable technical plans.
  • Provide clear technical input on feasibility, trade-offs, timelines, and constraints.
  • Act as the primary technical counterpart for executive leadership and key external stakeholders.
  • Support cross-functional alignment between engineering, data science, design, and operations.

Requirements

Must - have requirements

  • Senior experience in engineering leadership (Head of Engineering, Engineering Manager, or equivalent).
  • Strong technical background in modern backend systems, cloud platforms, and distributed architectures.
  • Proven experience owning production systems with reliability, security, and operational accountability.
  • Ability to lead and mentor engineers while maintaining technical credibility.
  • Experience working closely with Product and Executive stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical topics clearly.
  • Comfort operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with evolving priorities.

Nice to have

  • Experience in public-sector, defence, or other regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML platforms, data pipelines, or analytics-driven products.
  • Experience with security, privacy, and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, ISO-aligned practices).
  • Background in scaling engineering teams or platforms in early-stage or growth-stage companies.

We offer

• Not a typical, boring 9 - 5. Flexible work with an emphasis on measurable results rather than needless processes.
• Real ownership where you can take initiative, test ideas quickly, and bring them into production.
• Direct opportunity to shape the product’s technical direction and build your own solutions.
• Close collaboration with domain experts and hands-on mentorship from experienced leaders.
• Small, high-performing team with no corporate bureaucracy, fast decisions, and strong support for new ideas.
• Work on projects with real impact, including cooperation with the UN, NATO, and the EU.
